Jose Daniel Duarte Camacho Says Modern Leadership Must Evolve as Companies Face AI, Disengagement, and Faster Market Change

As organizations navigate artificial intelligence, workforce transformation, and rising pressure to move faster, business strategist Jose Daniel Duarte Camacho is emphasizing that leadership has become one of the most critical drivers of business resilience and long-term performance.

Leadership is no longer defined only by hierarchy, authority, or operational control. Today’s leaders are expected to build trust, guide teams through uncertainty, make faster decisions, and create cultures capable of adapting to rapid change. This shift is becoming increasingly urgent as global workplace data points to declining employee engagement and mounting pressure on managers.

Gallup’s 2026 State of the Global Workplace report found that global employee engagement fell to 20% in 2025, its lowest level since 2020, costing the world economy an estimated $10 trillion in lost productivity. Gallup has also estimated that managers account for at least 70% of the variance in employee engagement across business units, underscoring the direct relationship between leadership quality and organizational performance.

“Leadership is not just about setting direction; it is about creating the conditions for people to perform, adapt, and trust the path forward,” said Jose Daniel Duarte Camacho. “In a market shaped by AI, uncertainty, and constant change, companies need leaders who can combine strategic clarity with human connection.”

Recent research also shows that companies recognize the need for change but are struggling to execute it. Deloitte reported that 73% of organizations see the importance of reinventing the role of the manager, yet only 7% say they are making great progress. Deloitte’s 2026 Global Human Capital Trends survey also found that 7 in 10 business leaders identify speed and nimbleness as their primary competitive strategy over the next three years.

For Duarte Camacho, these findings point to a leadership gap that cannot be solved through one-time training or motivational messaging. Instead, organizations must build leadership systems that improve decision-making, accountability, communication, and talent development at every level.

According to Duarte Camacho, the next phase of effective leadership will be shaped by five priorities:

1. Clarity in uncertainty: Leaders must translate complexity into focused priorities and practical action.
2. Trust-based management: Teams perform better when communication, accountability, and transparency are consistent.
3. AI-ready leadership: Executives and managers must understand how to integrate technology without losing human judgment.
4. Talent development: Organizations need stronger succession planning and continuous leadership development.
5. Adaptability: Leaders must help teams respond to change without sacrificing culture, quality, or execution.

The pressure on leadership pipelines is also increasing. DDI’s Global Leadership Forecast 2025, based on input from more than 10,000 leaders and over 2,000 organizations worldwide, identified trust, burnout, bench strength, and future-ready leadership skills as major concerns. The study also found that 40% of stressed leaders have considered leaving leadership roles to improve their well-being.

“Companies often invest heavily in technology, strategy, and process, but leadership is what determines whether those investments turn into results,” added Duarte Camacho. “The organizations that will stand out are those that develop leaders who can make decisions faster, communicate with purpose, and build teams that remain engaged even under pressure.”

As businesses prepare for continued disruption, Duarte Camacho emphasizes that leadership must be treated as a measurable business capability, not a soft skill. Organizations that strengthen leadership at the manager and executive levels will be better positioned to retain talent, improve execution, and compete in markets where speed, trust, and adaptability define success.
